just a game

thought you'd appreciate this Maverick/cyberspace...

was at a cafe a few days ago, and listen to two college students talking to each other, clearly into each other but before anything had happened.  and they're opening up (while trying so hard to amke sure that they were revealing very social acceptable things, etc...)

... and they start talking about "high school."  and how they'd do things SO differently... which is fine.  everybody says that.  but then they said something else: about how they would treat it as a "game" if they could go back... and just work the system.  socially, academically, whatever...

... and i thought, what a seductive way of looking at everything.  once time passess, it ecomes a game.  once you're out of the actual danger of the situaiton... everything looks like a game.  a near-death experience mybe works the same way... you finally get so far outsdie it you think to yourslef, it's just a game...

or it's just a ride.  rip bill hicks.

why is that such a seuctive / common way of looking bakc on things?  and would life benefit from getting more of that in it...?  certainly mine would.  doesn't feel very gamey right now... more like an existential battle for my future.

ugh.  it's just a ride...

  1. and how exactly would they 'work the system'? isn't that what they were trying to do in the first place? I will say something about it though. in fact, new post..
